- Who or what is the Holy Spirit?
Genesis 1:1-3
The Holy Spirit’s presence in creation connects him with Jesus. Colossians 1:13-16
God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
Genesis 1:26-27; Acts 5:1-4
Old Testament “ruach” and New Testament “pneuma” both mean breath or wind as in life force. - The Holy Spirit and the church.
a. Gives birth to it.
b. Empowers the church for ministry.
c. Guides the church. - The Holy Spirit and the believer.
a. Regenerates the believer. John 3:4-7; Titus 3:4-7
b. Biblical description:
Receive – John 20:22; come upon you – Acts 1:8; being given – I John 3:24; being in – I Peter 1:11; into
our hearts – Galatians 4:6.
c. The Holy Spirit resides in the believer.
Greek verb “oikeo” means to dwell, reside or dwell.
d. The Holy Spirit in the power of God and his ministry in us begins with salvation. - “Be filled with the Holy Spirit” – Ephesians 5:18
a. Greek “pleroo” means to take control.
b. The imperative mood means it is a command.
c. Greek present tense means continuous action.
d. Verbs in passive voice means the subject is the actor.
e. A Greek verb in the plural includes all of us.Many concerned to have more of the Holy Spirit. Greater concern is how much of me does the Holy Spirit have.
