Three Lessons of the Beatitudes

1. Christians are to be like this.
2. All Christians are to manifest  these attitudes.
3. None of these occur . They are produced by  through the ministry of the  .

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.  NKJV

Chesedh is Greek word translated, “mercy.”  William Barclay called it an “ word.”

1. God’s promise.
   Luke 1:50; Ephesians 2:4-5; Titus 3:5-7
   Tim Keller in “Ministries of Mercy” says of mercy:  “Mercy to the full range of human needs is such an essential mark of being a Christian that it can be used as a test of true faith. Mercy is not optional or an addition to being a Christian. Rather, a life poured out in deeds of mercy is the inevitable sign of true faith.”
2. The law of proportionate .

3. Jesus’ prescription for happiness.
   Be merciful to someone who is .
