Why Give?

Tithing is giving a tenth.

IN SCRIPTURE THERE ARE THREE FORMS OF TITHING

  1. Tithing as an agreement (covenant) between God and peopleLeviticus 27:30-33
    Numbers 18:21-26, 31
    Deuteronomy 14:22-29

    This plan has been replaced by our new agreement (covenant in Christ).

  2. Tithing as legalism
    Practiced in Jesus’ day by the religious leaders
    Matthew 23:23-24
    What God intended to be a blessing had been turned into a burden.
    Luke 18:9-14
    Ministry requires money, which is to come from God’s people
  3. Tithing worship = reverent honor and homage given to God
    Genesis 14:17-24
    Hebrews 7:1-10
    Tithing as worship:
    a. Is an action by which we acknowledge the Lordship of Christ
    b. It expresses our personal allegiance to Him
        Genesis 28:10-22
    c. Tithing as worship is thanksgiving

    Tithing as worship frees us from guilt and puts our focus on our heart.
