Observations
- Elijah was obedient to the word of God. I Kings 17:8
- The widow recognized Elijah as a man of God. I Kings 17:12
- The plan was of God. I Kings 17:14
- The miracles were of God. I Kings 17:16, 22
The outcomes of their obedience:
They had food, her son lived, and she believed.
I Kings 17:16, 22, 24
This story introduces the subject of stewardship, which is the management of the resources God gives us.
The widow’s resources: firewood, flour, oil, a home, and a son. She was confronted with the question, “What are you going to do with what you have?”
- Everything is God’s.
a. By right of creation. Psalm 24:1,2
b. By right of redemption. I Corinthians 6:19-24 - God has made us stewards (managers).
Genesis 1:26-28, Matthew 25:14-30
a. Everyone has responsibility for something.
b. Those who manage well will be given more. - We will give an account for our management.
Romans 14:12
a. How we use our time. Ephesians 5:15-16
b. How we talk to and about each other. Ephesians 4:29-32
c. How we spend our money.
