Where’s the Happiness in Mourning?

Matthew 5:4

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

There are three parts in each “Be Happy Attitude”:

1. The Promise of .
2. The Key to discovery and experience.
3. The  in our lives today.

The Greek word used for mourning is the strongest word for mourning in the Greek language.

Matthew 5:4 from The Daily Study Bible:
“O the bliss of the man whose heart is broken for the world’s suffering and for his own sin,
for out of his sorrow he will find the joy of God.”

Matthew 5:4 from The Message:
“You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you.
Only then can you be embraced by the One who is most dear to you.”

There are many sources of our mourning.

• In 2019, tens of thousands of Christians were killed for their faith.
• Presently, COVID 19 is credited with more than 2.5 million cases and 175,000 deaths.

In order to explore the connection of mourning to happiness, separate the source of mourning into two camps:

1. Circumstances .
2. Circumstances affected .

Don’t misuse Romans 8:28…
“In Him is light,” say the scriptures, “then why,” asks George MacDonald,
“should we impart darkness to Him?”

You may disagree with me, however,
I do not believe that God is in total control of what goes on in this world.

Jesus’ word in John 14:30 refers to Satan as the “prince of this world” (NIV) or “the ruler of this world” (ESV, NASB).

Good theology includes an understanding that there is a power at work on the earth that is outside of God’s will.

So where’s the comfort?

1. Troubles and sorrows of this world are . (John 16:21-22; 2 Corinthians 4:17-18).
   Whatever our calamities in life, God promises His , , and .

   Psalm 34:18

2. Where is the happiness in the problems we have provoked?
