Galatians 5:19-26
Moving to California in 1983 introduced us to many new fruits and nuts.
Galatians 5:22-26
Life in the Spirit is in contrast to life in the flesh.
Galatians 5:19-21
Note the characteristics of life in the flesh is plural and Galatians 5:22 uses the Greek “karpos” which is singular.
The Fruit of the Spirit is love everything that follows is an expression of love.
NEB translates “karpos” as “harvest.”
Gifts of the Holy Spirit are listed in I Corinthians 12:4-11.
These are abilities given to people by the Holy Spirit for ministry.
The primary work of the Holy Spirit in our lives is making real the indwelling Christ, sanctifying us.
Example – Ephesians 4:13
Three Observations
- “Christian’s” behavior doesn’t authenticate their “beliefs.”
This is not a new phenomenon.
Jesus said, “By their fruit you will recognize them.” Matthew 7:16 - Ministry is not about pleasing God.
What we do is never the primary concern of God. God’s concern is what we become through what we do. - Taking a stand for righteousness does not equal changing society.
Remember the reason behind Paul’s letter.
We get worked up and stressed out about what we must do, when the answer is about what we can become!
