John 13:1-5

    Jesus showed them a new perspective on Passover by connecting it to the promises of the new covenant.

Passover Jesus’ Sacrifice

Writing from the second century tells us that the rabbis considered washing feet so menial that Hebrew slaves should not be required to do so.

A Hebrew slave must not wash the feet of his master, nor put his shoes on him, nor carry his things before when going to the bathhouse … over your brothers the children of Israel you shall not rule, one over another, with rigor. … But one’s son or pupil may do so.
