Effective Stewardship Requires Prayer

Effective Stewardship Requires Prayer
Jonah 2:1-10
Pastor Terry Wilcox

“Steward” is often used in scripture in reference to Christians. “Oikonomous.”

Prayer is communication with “the Lord your God.”
Hebrews 11:1
Hebrews 11:6

Now the real Christian is in-dwelt by the Holy Spirit, and  the Holy Spirit is God, and is, naturally, [therefore] in vital touch with the Father and the Son. On the basis that we know something about this God from the Holy Scriptures, we begin to speak to Him internally, and should do so as naturally, in a sense, as we speak to ourselves-our ‘better’ selves, born of God in Jesus Christ. That’s prayer. But we have to believe that He is there and listening.
-William Still

Effective Stewards Pray Because:

  1. Recognizing God is everywhere accesses power and enhances accountability.
Regardless of where you are, or how desperate your circumstances, God is there.
  2. Stewardship of time, talent, treasure, and opportunity begins by recognizing God as our  source.
James 1:16-17 – To recognize God does not diminish our work.
    Proverbs 14:23

We have been life-long receivers, and recognizing God as our ultimate source is vital to stewardship.

    And for the how:

  3. Prayer changes us.
    Jonah2:7-9
    Revelation 3:20-21
A vital secret of effective stewardship is our choice of partner.
