Is Meekness Weakness?
from “Jesus’ Attitudes of Happiness” Series

Matthew 5:5

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”
(NIV)

“You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.”
(The Message)

“O the bliss of the man who is always angry at the right time and never angry at the wrong time, who has every instinct, and impulse and passion under control because himself is God controlled, who has the humility to realize his own ignorance and his own weakness, for such a man is a king among men.”
(Daily Study Bible)

400 years ago, English translators chose the word, “meek”, which today implies .

Happiness is the product of Christ-like .

3 Lessons of the Beatitudes

  1. All are to be .
  2. All Christians are to all these attitudes.
  3. These do not occur .

  • The pride of the rabbis was in .
  • The pride of the Greeks was .
  • The pride of the Romans was .

Test your meekness with three questions:

  1. Am I ? (Philippians 2:5)
  2. Am I ?
  3. Am I a ? (Philippians 2:5)

All EIGHT of these qualities are the PRODUCT of the !! (Titus 3:4, Galatians 5:22)

I saw the Conquerors riding by
With cruel lips and faces wan:
Musing on kingdoms sacked and burned
There rode the Mongol Ghengis Khan;

And Alexander, like a god,
Who sought to weld the world in one;
And Caesar with his laurel wreath;
And like a thing from Hell the Hun;

And, leading like a star the van,
Heedless of upstretched arm and groan,
Inscrutable Napoleon went
Dreaming of empire, and alone. . . .

Then all they perished from the earth
As fleeting shadows from a glass,
And, conquering down the centuries,
Came Christ, the Swordless, on an ass!
