God blesses the brokenhearted with comfort. Mourning becomes a pathway to healing and intimacy with God.

  1. Reasons for mourning (The Greek word was used for mourning death)
    1. Our sins — 2 Corinthians 7:10; Psalm 51:1–17
    2. Consequences of a — Genesis 3; Romans 8:19–22
      All of us are acquainted with pain, suffering, and loss.
      Romans 8:28 –
      This verse does not say that God engineers the tragedies that hurt us.

      “In him is light,” says the Scriptures. “Then why,” asks George MacDonald, “should we import darkness to Him?”

    God created humanity with the freedom of choice.
    Satan deceived humanity with an alternative plan.
    There is a power at work on earth that is outside of God’s will.

  2. God promises
    1. Comfort Now
      • Psalm 34:18
      • Isaiah 41:10
      • John 14:16–20
    2. Greater comfort in our
      • 2 Corinthians 4:17–18
      • Revelation 21:4
  3. How sorrow results in healing
    1. Personal — 2 Corinthians 7:4, 8-10
    2. Our Christian community — Romans 12:15
      “One another” is used times in the New Testament
