Why Keep Asking?
Luke 18:1-8

Pastor Terry Wilcox

Jesus clearly states his purpose for the story. (Luke 18:1)

TWO CHARACTERS

  1. A corrupt judge. He was not .

    The Pharisee’s daily prayer indicates the plight of women in the first century.
    Luke 18:3 – She is persistent.
    Luke 18:4 – The judge did not care.

    Jesus shines the light on the big difference:
    Luke 18:7 – “But….God”

    Don’t you know that God, the true judge, will grant justice to all of his chosen ones who cry out to him night and day? He will pour out his Spirit upon them. He will not delay to answer you and give you what you ask for.

    Good theology depends upon understanding the of God.

    The only similarity of the godless judge and our loving God is that sometimes there is a  .

    So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together to fit into God’s perfect plan of bringing good into our lives, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfill his designed purpose.

    Luke 18:8 tells us that those who persist will see justice become reality, and when Jesus returns the judgment of God will be swift and certain.

THREE “WHYS” OF PERSISTENCE

  1. Jesus prayed persistently
  2. Jesus commanded persistence.

    Prayer is not about us  God. It is about God  us.
